Ambition for Ageing seminar - Green Spaces and Wellbeing: Engaging with the Arts in Green Spaces for Healthy Ageing
The seminar's speaker is Dr Ruth Colton, a Research Associate at the University of Manchester.
This seminar will introduce the ‘Green Infrastructure and the Health and Wellbeing Influences on an Ageing Population (GHIA)’ project and talk about the programme of activities linked to this that are already underway. It will feature an interactive art activity designed to get attendees thinking about the green spaces they already use and use these responses to help shape the project.
The Green Infrastructure and the Health and Wellbeing Influences on an Ageing Population (GHIA) project aims to understand the benefits and values of urban green spaces for older people and how green spaces can be best used to support healthy ageing in urban areas.
As part of this project, the researchers are looking to undertake research work alongside older people to explore the experiences of ageing and perceptions of green spaces. A programme of arts and/or heritage activities will be developed to look at the emotional and sensory experiences of ageing in place. Through these activities, the participants will explore issues such as barriers to participation, isolation and other things people might experience such as decline and loss.
