Developing a strategy for age-friendly Greater Manchester

Professor Chris Phillipson has published a report outlining a strategy to help Greater Manchester become the first ‘age-friendly region’ in the United Kingdom.

The report, entitled ‘Developing a Strategy for Age-Friendly Greater Manchester’, identifies several policy recommendations and priorities for action to achieve this goal and highlights the potential of a regional approach for improving the quality of life of older people. The report also reflects on the future of age-friendly work and discusses three possible scenarios for an Age-Friendly Greater Manchester.

As Professor Phillipson highlights: ‘… we need to think about: the probable direction which AFC might take; the possible; and the one regarded as preferable. Without this type of thinking, an age-friendly GM region could still develop; equally, it might be one considerably removed from the aspirations and ambitions that might reasonably be set.’

Professor Phillipson will introduce his report during the Greater Manchester Ageing Conference 2017 on 16 February, a landmark event bringing together influential leaders, world-leading academics and community sector innovators to discuss prospects for building an age-friendly city-region.
